The color plates are copies of AO H-R-R Pseudo-isochromatic plates. Seven color plates are insufficient to characterize a hereditary color defect, but are ample to identify a neurologic color defect. Rarely does a disease process affect color appreciation equally in both eyes and therefore bilaterally asymmetric responses suggests an acquired defect which warrants further investigation as to the cause of the asymmetric color vision loss. If the same color plates are missed in each eye, a more comprehensive color vision test is needed to characterize the defect which may be hereditary in origin.
