What is a Cataract?
There is a lens in your eye that focuses the light onto your retina and allows you for see clearly. When this lens becomes hazy or cloudy it is called a cataract. The cataract causes the vision to dim and later it becomes blurry. The most common cause of cataract is aging. By 50 years of age, the eye doctor can detect a cataract in everyone even though the vision may be 20/20 (normal). A cataract may take many years to reach the severity that requires surgery, however some cataracts progress rapidly and marked changes can occur in a period of 3 months.
