AMA Optics, Inc., manufacturer of leading edge eye care diagnostic instruments announced today that Bausch & Lomb Surgical will implement the Retinal Acuity Meter in its Crystalens clinical research studies.

The Retinal Acuity Meter RAM is a portable, hand-held device that accurately assesses the function of macula, and forecasts post-operative acuity prior to cataract surgery.

"In our research, we understand the importance of accurately assessing potential postoperative visual acuity through retinal acuity testing. We found the Retinal Acuity Meter to be very helpful in quantifying the status of functional acuity and potential vision", said Michael Breen, OD, Vice President of Crystalens Professional Development.

"As premium IOL technology progresses and patient expectations increase after cataract or refractive lens exchange surgery, the need for an accurate and thorough evaluation of the macula is critical to assure a positive visual outcome, said Tom Minero, VP of Business Development for AMA Optics." The RAM quickly and easily meets that requirement, and we are pleased that Bausch & Lomb has confidently implemented our pre-operative diagnostic technology during the development of their Crystalens IOL product platform."
